Safety instructions to follow during handling of valves

Control valves are generally used in systems where there is the need to control the gases, liquids or vapors of the system. These valves are controlled by the European Pressure Equipment Directive which certifies the quality assurance system. Control valves may be either globe body, two way, single seated, direct or reverse action or multi-spring pneumatic actuator or air solenoid valve.

There are different combinations by the different trims. The control valves could also be used along with the pneumatic actuator to modulate the on or off service.  The main function of the actuator is to change to either direct actuation or reverse actuation online quickly. All these things need to be done under expert supervision and all of the people involved in this should follow the safety instructions.

Qualified Personnel

All the mounting, starting or servicing of the control valve should be done only by trained and qualified personnel. The personnel should also observe the codes and practices and should ensure safety at all times. If you do not have the full knowledge about the handling, it is better to stay away from it. Make sure that all the other employees and workers are not exposed to any danger. There are safety instructions and warnings which are provided. Be sure to read them and follow them while mounting, operating, assembling or even during maintenance work. However, it is advisable to call the professionals and leave the work upto them.

Maintain pressure and temperature

Maintain pressure and temperature

For the efficient operation of the system, the control valve should be used where the operating pressure and temperature is below the operating values of the valves. If the temperature or pressure exceeds, it could seriously damage to the system and its environment as well. The manufacturers provide a listing of the moderator temperature and pressure which should be maintained. If you exceed the limit, it could be considered damaged by external forces. These problems could be solved by following the guidelines and taking the required precautions.

Connections

Before performing any work on the valves, you should make sure that the supply air and control signal are disconnected from each other. They must be blocked in order to prevent which might be caused due to the movement of the parts. Moreover, you should allow the control valve to cool down or reach the ambient temperature before you start working on the valve.

Conclusion

Always follow these safety rules in order to protect yourself and your co-workers from any danger.
